This high-quality, library-bound reprint of the 1916 edition contains many black and white illustrations as well as 25 color illustrations and maps. The original edition included 12 full spread map inserts. These have been resized to fit on a page, but are available for download in an 8.5x11 size in our Ancient Times Maps Packet, part 1 and part 2.

Author James Henry Breasted is considered one of the greatest American Egyptologists and archaeologists. Breasted's greatest achievement was the founding of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago, “an inter-disciplinary research center that unites archaeology, textual studies, and art history as three complementary methodologies to provide a holistic understanding of ancient Near Eastern civilizations, and the ways that they laid the foundations for what we think of today as "Western civilization."“

In addition to being a renowned archaeologist, known for his extensive field research and broad approach, Breasted was also a good writer.
